I Don't Know What Happened to your CAT5...Honest
Still not to my final destination. In fact, I now don't know what my final destination will be. I am currently doing the WAITEX at the Regional Support Unit (RSU) that supports the Garrison Support Unit (GSU) I am supposed to dispense questionable advice too. The problem is the RSU is still a BSU which is what we called GSUs last week. The staff here is trying very hard to get stood up as the RSU and get their arms around the structure. The aren't yet ready to start standing up GSUs so we wait. The staff around hear has its hands full and the last thing they want to do is stumble over my team. For the last couple of days we have wandered around the building like free range chickens moving from office to office looking for work and talking to the Iraqis trying to learn some pidgin Arabic and learn something about the culture and attitudes. Today I got fed up. I noticed that there was an unused office off in one corner of the building that had once been the Operations Cell until they got better spaces. I found out who had the keys and acquired them. We sent the Chief out and he smoozed with the other NCOs and low and behold, we had a computer and some CAT 5 cable. None of us are techno-nazis but we can trace out a system. We figured out were the gozins and gozouts were for the LAN and after a while we actually got our "space" wired for internet. I am pretty proud of us that we managed to do that. I wont say it wasn't like a bunch a chimpanzees humping a door knob, but we got it done. Anyway we have squatted on a space, penetrated the network and made ourselves a home. That is until they move us out to help start the GSUs. While the battle cry of our little "Naval Infantry" unit is "Just Get Over It" our motto is definitely "Semper Gumbi". I really miss my original team mates. Only a coupled of the First Team are left with me and I am expecting the remainder of my new multi service team to arrive shortly. I still don't understand why they felt the need to piecemeal us out. The skills I am getting pretty much correspond to the skillsets I had with my original team. I guess understanding is not necessary but deliverable results are. Oh well, I just really miss them. If I still had my ITC and IT3, it only would have taken about five minutes to get our purloined space on the net instead of the better part of the day. Now If I could just get my Bride to log into messenger so I can fire up the webcam.
