Arrived at the CONUS Replacement Center (CRC) today. This place is a low budget copy of the set for the movie Stalag 17. Still it beats being on a ship. The chow is pretty lousy though. It makes Navy chow gourmet by comparison. I also appreciate Navy tradition a little more now. The Navy is mired in the 17th century tradition. Officers are served meals by enlisted men in the wardroom like lords of the manner. The army would never dream of having and enlisted man serve an officer, it is almost the other way around. I like the confederate commissary system best though. The system is based on 4 to 8 man messes. All the cooking implements and food needed are divided among the members of the mess. That way you built esprit de corps and nobody had to carry to much weight. Also, if you wanted to fry up some sow belly you were damn sure gonna look out for the pard carrying the frying pan.
