A Little Disappointing
Robin Williams, Kurt Angle, and Mike Wallace dropped by to entertain us last night. They were part of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Christmas USO tour. The Chairman gave a speech prior to introducing the entertainment in which he boosted our morale by telling us what a good job we are doing, and just how vitally important our job is. I got the distinct impression that the Chief of the JCS HAS ABSOLUTELY NO FREAKIN' IDEA WHAT WE DO HERE! Now that's a morale booster. Kurt Angle came out first. I must admit that I had no idea who Kurt Angle is, apparently I do not pay close enough attention to WWE Smackdown. Turns our he is a wrestler. He threatened the crowd and talked tough for a little while. I appreciate his effort but when you try and appear tough in front of people who's job requires the use of body armor you just come off as silly. The next guy out was Mike Wallace. I am afraid I have never heard of him either. I guess I have not spent enough time sitting in a lawn chair watching NASCAR. Yep, he was a NASCAR driver. I also appreciate him coming, he was funny. Finally, Robin Williams came out (I have actually heard of him before) and I was disappointed. He was pretty funny, not incredibly funny, just pretty funny and his humor was in the gutter. Now I appreciate sexual humor, and I have even been known to toss out a few colorful epithets when the situation warrants, but Mr. Williams definitely crossed the line of good taste. A comedian as naturally talented as he should not have to resort such a base level of humor. I felt it was beneath his talent. Actually, I thought the Hack and Slash show we had a few months ago was funnier (definitely a lot less profanity), but they had an edge: What's not funny about guys whacking each other with swords. Don't get me wrong. I certainly am not complaining, in fact, I am very grateful that Mr. Williams, Mr. Angle, and Mr. Wallace came out to entertain us. I just felt that Mr. Williams didn't need to take the comedic low road.
