Random Rantings
In Africa today, it is hot, humid and wet (a darn fine state of affairs when I am with my Bride, but given the current circumstances....IT SUCKS!) It has been drizzling for most of the day. Not enough moisture to make living things flourish, just enough to turn dust into mud. I really hate the mud. It gets everywhere and is a pain in the Heiny to get out. This week I got mail both on Sunday and today, WOOHOOO! My Bride still loves me. She sent me a foamy egg crate mattress pad on Sunday and that went on the rack immediately. Ahhhh! Almost comfortable and no more exposed springs poking me where I don't like being poked. In today's package, I got all kinds of goodies! It was a VERY GOOD BOX! Thank ya Darlin' I love you too! My box had Haribo Gummi Bears, Trail Mix, Fruit Roll Ups, Beef Jerky and the glory of glories CHEESE!!!!! Yes, I am now the proud hoarder of FOUR, yes FOUR cans O' Cheese whiz in a variety of tasty flavors!!!! LET THE ARTERIAL HARDENING BEGIN!!!! My Bride also sent a mattress cover to go with my egg crate. I was kinda surprised cause it was the vinyl kind that I put on my little ones beds "In Case Of Accident". Darlin' just what are you implying? While I freely admit to having to get up at least once a night to stumble out to the heads and being deeply desirous of a funnel, hose and milk jug next to my rack; I certainly have no...Uhhh.....bladder control problems. Never the less I am deeply grateful for your box full of love. Thanks.
I guess I should say something about Iowa Caucasus, all the other bloggers are. The problem is, I really just couldn't care less. I am, of course interested in the political direction of country and the liberty, and security of our citizens. It often seems that they are one in the same of late. As I have said before, I think Dubya is doing a fine job and I will I will vote for him again. In my opinion, this nation took a political wrong turn in 1850 and was hopelessly lost by 1861. A new nation arose from the ashes of the old. Yes, I meant that. A new nation of the same genetic material but substantially different in character. The words of Mr. Lincoln come to mind when I think about it. He said:
"Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure. "
I sometimes wonder if it did endure past the war. It would seem that the rights of individual citizens have steadily been eroding while the power of the central government has steadily increased. Don't get me wrong. The War of Northern Aggression, while unjust constitutionally, remedied a horrible blight on the face of our nation. A nation that embraces slavery cannot hope to endure long, it was a cancer that was destroying our moral core and if this nation did not deal with the problem it would have collapsed from the decay. The war also paved the way for the United States to become the most powerful force on the face of our planet, but what did we give up, what was the real price? In one hundred and thirty nine years we have gained much as a nation but how much individual liberty have we lost. What of the eminent domain abuses we see today, invasive searches, electronic monitoring, and the ever increasing federal presence in the ordinary affairs of the individual citizen? Has the nation conceived in liberty survived? Sometimes I am forced to wonder. The Iowa caucus ain't gonna change that. The most important issue before this nation during this election season is the prosecution of a war that we did not start and we had best finish. Of the "Yaller Dogs" slinging feces at each other in Iowa, I just don't see much wartime leadership potential.
