Hardtack and Havoc

A private of the 1st Texas Volunteer Infantry Civil War Reenactor with a day job in Uncle Sugar's Navy trapped in the unholy land of New England...I wish I was still in Iraq.

Another Auspicious Day!

Do you know what happened on this day in 1824? I do and I feel like sharing. On this day in the year 1824, Thomas Jonathan Jackson was born about Clarksburg in what is now West Virginia. "Old Blue Light" is one of my favorite historical figures from the War of Northern Aggression, well, him and Patrick Cleburne. I had often read that he was called "Old Blue Light" because his eyes seemed to turn a piercing blue when he had his dander up. I always thought the fairly fanciful until my second son and later my daughter were born. They both have blue eyes that reflect their moods. Their eyes show a pail ice blue when they are content and they change through the blue color spectrum (dependent on mood) to a fiery piercing blue when they are angry or mischievous. It is an amazing thing to see. I imagine Gen. Jackson eyes must have been much the same way. Jackson was a very intriguing individual and I would encourage anyone with any interest in history to take a little time and research him.
