I, Dr. Jack Shepard am not pleased and I do not approve of the Democratic National Committee's position to continue to criticize George W. Bush's election as the 43rd President of the United States as illegitimate.
Mr. McAuliffe was elected as Chairman of the Democratic National committee only because he is a close friend of Ex-President Clinton and the most prolific fundraiser in Democratic history. This sends all the wrong signals to my fellow Americans.
During the Presidential Election all I heard from the Democratic National Committee was:
"THE URGENT NECESSITY OF CAMPAIGN FINACING LEGISLATION REFORM" and now the Democratic Party chooses as its new chairman the very symbol of soft money campaign fund raisers in Mr. Terence McAuliffe.
The members of the Democratic Committee literally forced former Mayor Maynard Jackson of Atlanta who also wished to be Democratic National Chairman to throw his support to Mr. Terence McAuliffe by blocking his election.
Mr. Terence McAuliffe was chosen Chairman of the Democratic Committee only because he knows where and how to get money instead of former Mayor Maynard Jackson a much more qualified and experienced politician but BLACK candidate without these big money connections.
I, Jack Shepard was an elected delegate from "Democrats aboard of Italy to the Democrats Aboard Regional Caucuses and Global Convention in Paris on April 2, 2000.
UNDER STATEMENTS AND SPEECHES
I can be quoted as saying, "I and the Democratic Party should not take the BLACK vote for grant it. I was very disappointed that not one of the Black Delegates at the Democratic Aboard Regional Caucuses and Global Convention in Paris got chosen to be a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in August. If I had a greater say in the running of the Democratic Party this would never happen on my watch."
Now that the election in over I fell much freer to discussion what happened to another delegate and myself from Democrats Aboard of Italy. We both wished to vote for Mrs. Ricki Stevenson, a Black Democrat Aboard delegate from France; to be a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in August.
We were told the deal was already made. The delegates to the Democratic National Convention were already decided for us (before the vote) and if we did not vote for the list of candidate handed us we would never be chosen again to represent "Democrats Aboard of Italy" to any future Democrats Aboard Regional Caucuses and Global Convention. I apologized to Mrs. Stevenson after the vote when she was not chosen.
That I and another delegate from "Democrats Aboard of Italy" were forced by the Democratic Leaders of the Global Convention and Regional Caucus to vote their candidates really started me think what has the Democratic Party really become.
After my personal experiences with the selection process now used in the Democratic Party I find it no surprise that former Mayor Maynard Jackson a BLACK candidate for Chairman of the Democratic National Committee was forced to threw his support to Mr. Terence McAuliffe.
I consider Mr. Terence McAuliffe a hypocrite when he, Mr. Terence McAuliffe, "bluntly challenged the legitimacy of President George W. Bush's election and pledged to turn Democratic grievance over the results into a mobilizing force to win Congress next year and the White House in 2004."
I, Jack Shepard ask Mr. Terence McAuliffe when he says, "We will prove there is victory after denial" how do Mrs. Ricki Stevenson and former Mayor Maynard Jackson of Atlanta feel when they and many other BLACKS are know being denied and passed by for important position the Democratic Party.
Why does not Mr. Terence McAuliffe understand and conclude that the public wants to move past the ill will over the post-election maneuvering that settled the election.
He and the Democratic Party must start to work with President Bush to unite our country and enable President Bush to be an effective leader especially with the very confusing and dangerous situation in the Middle East that President Clinton left for President Bush
