Hardtack and Havoc

A private of the 1st Texas Volunteer Infantry Civil War Reenactor with a day job in Uncle Sugar's Navy trapped in the unholy land of New England...I wish I was still in Iraq.

Were Baaaaack!

It's good to be back.  I'm afraid we had a little unplanned sabbatical here at Hardtack and Havoc 'cause someone, I think it was "Mayhem" deleted it off the control panel.  Whooops.  I swear my four year old in dangerous around the computer.  He knows how to install, load, and operate a few of the programs/hardware and he believe he is fully qualified to operate the PC without supervision.  To him I say "Show me a signed off PQS!"  Never the less it is good to be able to pontificate again.  This has been a very interesting week.  As of this morning I am checked out of my Command (I guess it ain't my Command anymore) and will drive up to Groton Saturday morning to check in on Monday.  We found renters for the house and our possessions will be moved out the week of the 16th and they will move in on or about the 20th.  Still trying to get my projects done.  I am hanging the crown molding in my office as we speak.  Nail guns are WAAAAAY COOOOOL!  Oh by the way, par for the course for Navy personal admin, I don't exist.  About a year ago my old Command disestablished and became a department of a brand new "Super Command" and in doing so our personnel records moved from one servicing PAST (Personnel Support Detachment, spoken P-S-Duuuuuhhhh) to another.  All records that is except mine 'cause I was off enjoying my African anti-terrorist safari.  The old PSD purged their records and the new one had no record of me.  When I tried to check out today, the hardest part was trying to convince the PNs that I was, in fact, a real live person and not some figment of their imagination.  That was fun.  I knew it was going to happen because I had to fight with PSD to stop my Hostile Fire/Fam Sep/Hardship Duty/and Combat Zone Tax Exclusion pay and let me repay the overage before I started getting zero balance paychecks.  I had to convince them I was a real person and not currently in Africa on that occasion as well.  Since I knew it was going to happen I was prepared to have fun with it so the experience was not terribly unpleasant.  That being said, if I had not been expecting the situation to be screwed up I would have ended up angry, frustrated and blood pressure up in the stroke zone.  The key to dealing with the system is to understand that:

a.  If it can be screwed up it will be
b.  Out of all the records in the world if one is going to be screwed up, it will be yours
c.  If things do not appear to be screwed up, it is worse than you thought
d.  Nobody cares about your situation other than you so drive the train

The crown molding is up, the decorative case around the dining room entry is up and the transition around the fireplace is cut.  I am gonna go to bed.

Congrats on getting the projects done and finding solutions to some of the issues you were dealing with. Good luck on the move - I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you find the "perfect home".
