Wow.....There Is Intelligent Life Out There
It's good to know I ain't alone. Read this if you feel like it.
I can't say I agree with everything the author of the post writes but I do agree with the sentiment. I am myself am a "constitutionalist" who believes that this sacred document has been consistently subverted by the political parties since the 1850s. We fought a war on the subject and unfortunantly (or maybe fortunantly) the side that believes as I do lost. The author states that if the "boys of 1861" had prevailed that southrons would have a vastly better country. While I agree with the basic sentiment a simple fact that cannot be ignored is that the Confederacy of 61-65 was doomed by it's own policy of enforced servitude (i.e. the peculiar institution of slavery). Slavery was a cancer that destroyed the moral core of the Confederacy, and as long as the institution was embraced failure was almost a certainty. Slavery had to die before a restoration of the constitution could be sucessful. If the south had prevailed in the War of Northern Aggression would slavery have died a natural death? I have no doubt that it would have. Slavery was economically untenable even beyond the moral issues. If the Conferderacy had thrown off the yoke of slavery as they took the up the mantle of secession would they have succeeded. Yes, I think so and Southrons would have been better off for it but this nation would not be what it is today. Are we headed towards a constitutional crisis in this nation. Most definitely, both power wielding political parties have pretty much reached the point of publicly wiping their collective asses with OUR CONSTITUTION and are shoving it down our throats. Will the American people notice and take back their government? Probably not, government sponsored education systems have pretty much dumbed the average Joe down to the docility of a sheep on valium. So while I agree with "the boys of 1861" that the constitution was subverted and if it could not be restored within the framework of the Union then Independence was is the next best option, I disagree that the rebellion of 61' would have resulted in a better Southern Nation. As Southrons, we are a conquered people living in an occupied land. Will that ever change? Probably not. Overall, is it a bad thing? Probably not but the Jury of history is still out. The ideal case is always be a restoration of the Constitution with in the established framework of the Union.
