At Least Warm That Twinky Up!
Lets see, I got unofficial notice that I would deploy in the first week in November on 14th of October. By my math that is only 18 days prior to November. That is a fair amount of warning given the efficiency of our Naval bureaucracy but that wasn't even official enough word to start the screening process without calling in support. My orders, containing all the things I had to accomplish during the screening process only just came in on the 25th which by my bonehead math is SIX days unit the magic first week in November. Luckily, I was already working on a 5yr annual physical exam when the unofficial notification came in and that really helped with the medical portion of the screening. End result of the physical was that I deaf as a post and my cholesterol is high. Excuse me but this is new? The hearing loss was diagnosed five years ago and is fully documented in my medical record and my hearing has been stable for the last 5 years. In fact, my hearing has been stable since I stopped working on flight lines and flight decks. Hhmmmmm...I wonder if there might be a correlation? Ain't no cause to get all riled up about it now. As for the cholesterol, I had my level checked a the day before I started the physical. In fact, it was when I was asking for the check that it was noted that my 5yr was about to expire. I had been on cholesterol meds up until about a two years prior but decided I could control it through diet and exercise. This worked for about a year until I was drafted back into the sub force. My stress went up and my exercise regime fell apart so I figured I needed more frequent checks. It indeed had had gone back up and my Pecker Checker put me back on the meds. In fact, it is my very same Chanchre Mech that is now all uptight about my cholesterol level. I point out to him that I just started on meds and he gets all concerned and starts interrogating me. "Who did that? Who authorized the script? etc" It was all good cuz I got to look him in the eye and say "Uhhh....YOU DID DOC, last Friday!". That was fun. He also pointed out that my blood pressure was a little higher than it usually runs as well. I explained to him that not only am I trying to prepare for a short notice deployment but I came in for the final part of a physical exam that includes the dreaded "Afterburner Check" and his damn fingers look like frickin' twinkies to me you better darn well believe my blood pressure is up! Overall pretty good check except for the cholesterol, that bothers me because I don't like taking medicine. Got to get my work out and diet back into focus.
