Hardtack and Havoc

A private of the 1st Texas Volunteer Infantry Civil War Reenactor with a day job in Uncle Sugar's Navy trapped in the unholy land of New England...I wish I was still in Iraq.

Uhh Ohhhh!

It's official, productivity in my shop has come to a screeching halt. Yesterday, we were all working away like busy little beavers protecting the free world through material readiness when one of my hard charging young soldiers looks over at the Logistics Watch Officer's computer screen:

SSG (One): "How did you get that on your computer, Sir?"
CAPT: "Its on the network in the public drive under software"
SSG (One): "Cool, Delta Force: BlackHawk Down is on the Network!"
SSG (Two)/AKC/ Gunner/CPL/LCPL (one through four) in unison: "THE GAME BLACKHAWK DOWN IS ON THE NETWORK! WHERE"

Ain't been a damn thing accomplished since. Apparently, our enemies don't need to fly planes into buildings and set of IEDs to grind our war machine to a halt. All they need do is insert a computer game into the DoDs networks and wham bam thank ya ma'am, we are stopped cold. I am hoping that enthusiasm for network gaming will die a natural death by Monday, I don't want to be an asshole about this. I don't mind the troops playing games, after all we spend about 110 to 120 hours a week in the office. Some distraction is required. However, when it grinds the wheels of progress to a screeching halt then I have an issue with it. Priorities people! Real war first, electronic game warfare second. Personally, I would be more sympathetic is they put HALO on the net! The really scary thing about this game is just how much the scenery looks like the local area. Even the enemy characters look like the local skinnies. Not really suprising considering our proximity to Somalia. Still it is disconcerting when you are zeroing your Barret 50. Cal Sniper rifle in on a hostile target and you think (Yes, I have played a round or two myself): "Isn't that guy the J-4 interpreter? No.....Wait a minute that's the guy who hands out basketballs and towels at the Gym!"
