The Down Side To Army Camp

Unfortunately, Army camp ain’t all fun and games. This one time at Army camp we had to we had to redo all the deployment processing we just completed last week in Norfolk. I was privileged to have my third operational medical screening in three weeks. I also got to fill out my third page two and my third SGLI statement. The very best part was when the ISOPREP people told all the people foolish enough to do their ISOPREP stuff prior to departure as instructed by our orders to pass them forward so they could be shredded. Then we all got to do another ISOPREP.

And the dark angel of Army bureaucracy looked upon them and saw that all the Sailors and slimy creatures of the deep were content and fully administratively processed by clerks not of his own dominion was greatly displeased. He said “verily I shall smite them again and again with repetitive forms and additional screening until suck as they are depleted. Yea, I shall set upon them my clerks and staff until all that remains of prior processing has been removed from them as blight from the fields. Also, I shall require each to be marked with the safety disco belt so all shall know they have been indoctrinated in my dominion and they shall not be run over playing in traffic.” There was much gnashing of teeth and tearing of garments as Sailors were administratively processed, each to fill out the forms again. Each to be prodded and poked again and each were marked with a reflective disco belt. The dark angel of Army bureaucracy looked down upon the smoted Sailors and was pleased.

So how was your day?

I slept safely, because rough men stood ready to do violence on my behalf!

Having spent four years of my life in the Green Machine, I can empathize with your frustration.

What was their issue with the ISOPREPs? We wouldn't let our aircrews deploy without updated ISOPREPs. The DD 1833 is the form used by all of the services. I've yet to hear from one of our folks who has had this happen to them. Does the Army have different rules for picking an authenticator number or for filling out the authentication statements? Or maybe it's just the case of some yahoo reading a checklist that says that ISOPREPs have to be filled out now. Which means that they have to be filled out NOW, and no earlier. Stupid, but not unheard of.
