My Fathers wife served in the U.S. Air Force and completed a full career with the Air Force Reserve. Thanks Val!

My Father-In-Law served 13 plus years in the U.S. Navy and was medically retired after a tour in SE Asia. Thanks David!

My Grandfather serve a full career in the Naval Reserve including active service in World War II and Korea. Thanks Grandfather!

My Brides Grandfather served in the Merchant Marine in the Pacific Theater in World War II. He died long before she was born. Thank you!

To all my family, friends, strangers etc who have worn the cloth of our nation since it's birth. Thank you.

Most importantly, too my friends whom are out on the tip of the spear today. Thank you and God Speed!

For those who may need a reminder, and I have met many in the last year, I leave you with some thoughts penned by Rudyard Kipling:

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

Happy Birthday To My Little Green Brothers!

On November 9th 1775 the Continental Congress realized that the fledgling country was just about chock full of malcontents, troublemakers, demagogues, disrupters, dogmatist, firebrands, , fomenters, inciters, instigators, provocateurs, rabble-rousers, and zealots. Since rounding up all these folks and fixing their impressive lists of personality disorders was much too difficult and expensive an alternative had to be found. On November 10th 1775 a CORPS OF MARINES was formed. To my Little Green Brothers I wish you the fondest of Happy Birthdays. I know you have spent the day doing what you love to do best...Breaking things, kicking the enemies of our nation square in the ass and sending their souls straight to hell. God bless and keep the Corps!

P.S. You will always be the Naval Infantry to me.

Guilt Trip

As I was watching the Fox News coverage of our Marines in Fallujah it occurred to me that I have been home from OEF for just a little over six months. It seems like a lifetime. I got home in late April and in that time I have accepted a new set of orders for a job a didn't really want in a place I surely didn't want to go. It seems like a million years since I finished my time with CJTF-HOA. That is the way of things, you go where the Navy sends you and you do your duty to the best of your ability. I still feel guilty that my tour is over and I am at home when so many are still over there. That feeling was very acute as I watched the coverage of the current offensive and then I felt even more guilty that I was feeling guilty about not being deployed to OIF/OEF when I am blessed to be home with my family. I am sure that keeping my Submarine Squadrons financially and materially sound is just as important as anything I could be doing in the CENTCOM AOR but it sure doesn't feel like.
